  1. I did library time with my 2nd and 3rd graders yesterday. We talked about a somewhat obscure holiday called Tom Bawcock’s Eve (Dec 23) and read Antonia Barber’s book, The Mousehole Cat,, a beautifully written and illustrated story about the wee town of Mousehole (pronounced “Mowzel”). It’s a wonderful holiday story to read to kids, but like so many good children’s books, it’s difficult to find, so you may need to trot down to your library to find it. Happy Holidays!!

    1. I am intrigued by Tom Bawcock’s Eve. Never heard of it. Do you think the holiday in need of the picture book treatment? (I’ve also been contemplating a Boxing Day book for years.)

Oh, and sorry for my very late reply, Jilanne. My vaycay was technology-free.

      1. The Mousehole Cat has the picture book territory covered. Check it out at your library. The illustrations are beautiful.

I think Boxing Day may be ripe for the picking.

        Happy New Year!

    1. Thank you, my friend.

Do forgive me for not responding sooner. My vacations are tech-free. I will get back into the swing of posting and commenting soon!

Have you had any luck with finding a regular writing gig?

      1. Happy New Year Mike! No, not yet..and now I’m leaving for Rwanda for three weeks, which will also be mostly tech free, apart from the odd internet cafe visit…will see where I’m at when I get back. Enjoy the beginning of 2013!

    1. Here’s hoping yours were especially happy.

BTW: According to my WordPress Annual Report, you were my No. 1 Commenter for 2012! Woo!

  2. Mike, Awesome photo. Hope you’re having a fun break.

We got a great Christmas card from friends who have three kids. The 2-year-old is tying up the two older kids with strings of lights. The caption reads: Dear Santa, Can you be more specific about the meaning of the word “naughty”? We’re asking for a friend.
