A couple of weeks ago, the lovely and talented Cricket Muse and I debated which children’s book character deserved to be a balloon in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Cricket opted for the bouncy joie de vivre of Tigger.
I, on the other hand, felt that Peter from The Snowy Day was far more parade worthy.
Well, the commenters have spoken… and Peter has won hands down! So WOO!
Because of this, I have decided to do a bit of research to determine how these Thanksgiving balloons are selected. Once I am armed with this knowledge, I shall lobby for Peter’s inclusion in a future parade.

And who knows? Perhaps one day that imaginative boy in the iconic red snowsuit will finally (and deservedly) earn a place of honor floating down 6th Avenue.

I am happy for Peter. He’s a great kid. I’m even happier for Mike. This losing to a better argument affects his bounciness in the most ridicerous way (says Tigger).

Tigger is already a balloon in that parade isn’t he?? And that red kid was on my stamps for last years Christmas cards. Didn’t know who he was tho.
Believe it or not, Tigger has never been a balloon!

I missed the last post conversation but I admit, I’d have voted for Peter. But in all honestly, your post has made me desire a Macy’s day balloon for my picture book characters Bert and Bessie. They would be PERFECT up there in the NY Parade Skyline. Hmmm, during your research, let me know if you find out how the two birds can apply. 🙂
