When I posted my first “Win a Doodle!” contest last year, my motives were simple: I didn’t have a post but I still wanted to post something. I figured that maybe a dozen blog followers would enter. Instead, the comments section went nutty. I was bewildered.
So I did the doodle contest thing a few months later – and that turnout was even nuttier.
It’s been a quite a while since my last doodle contest — and a few of you rabble rousers won’t let me forget it. I have been harassed! Harangued! Badgered! Bullied!
And, like France on the eve of a major war, I have capitulated.
Here’s another chance to win your very own doodle!
IF YOU WIN, I WILL DRAW WHATEVER YOU WANT!
Yep. It’s true. Need proof? Fine.
Jenion, the winner of the first doodle contest, is an avid cyclist. She asked me to doodle a cyclist. So I did.

Kid Lit Reviews, the winner of the second contest, is a devoted animal rights advocate. She asked me to draw a picture of a Great Dane protecting a few smaller dogs. So I did.

On another occasion, Jilanne Hoffman’s punk kid, ignoring the fact that I do not like cats, asked me to draw a picture of a cat.
Then that punk kid asked me to draw a kitten.
Oh, whatta punk that kid is!
So yes. I will draw whatever you want.
Well, there is one exception. I won’t draw what you want if what you want is pervy. I am a children’s book author, bucko, so take your dirty business somewhere else!
There is one other point to consider. I am not a portrait artist, so if you ask me to draw a picture of you, I will cheat. My friend and fellow blogger, Vanessa Chapman, learned this the hard way.

HOW TO WIN
The winning name will be drawn at random. The draw-er is this guy.
He’s nutty, but his integrity is unimpeachable.
HOW TO ENTER
To get your name in the drawing all you need to do is leave a comment that answers the following question:
If you could have any fictional character as a pet, which character would you choose and why?
The “why” is key. If you just yell something like “SCOOBY DOO!” your name will not be included in the drawing. You need to explain your choice.
Got it?
HOW TO INCREASE YOUR CHANCES OF WINNING
Want me to stuff the ballot box in your favor? Fine. I’ll add two more ballots if you announce this contest on your blog and link back to this page. That’s three chances to win!
Don’t have a blog? OK, then you can get one extra ballot if you announce this contest on your Facebook page or Twitter feed.
DEADLINES, ETC.
Your entry is due on or before Monday, March 16. The winner of the drawing will be announced on Tuesday, March 17.
The completed doodle will be posted on this blog. The original drawing (suitable for framing!) will be mailed to the winner.
That’s it! Answer the question and get going!
GOOD LUCK!

I missed the last Doodle contest but this time I am entering it. Sharing this!
You really are a GREAT illustrator! I am am artist also and mine is very boxed in Fraktur Folk Art! Not at all whimsical like yours! I’m assuming you’ve sold a few books your work is in?
How kind of your to say, Lorraine! No, I don’t have any books with my drawings in them. I’m a career writer and a hobbyist doodler.
By the way, don’t forget to tell me which fictional character you would like as a pet. I can’t enter you in the drawing otherwise!
Reblogged this on Raine's Cache.
We are Big Hero 6 movie fans and I would love to have Baymax as a companion, not a pet. He is so sweet and lovable. And he can treat any medical problem in minutes.
Ooh, I didn’t think of Baymax! An excellent choice from an excellent film.
Thanks for the reblog. Three ballots for you!
I would have Saphira from Christopher Paolini’s Inheritance Cycle (you know, the badass dragon?). Because, well she is a badass dragon, and who wouldn’t want one of those?!
I haven’t read Paolini’s books. But now I am intrigued…
And you name goes in the hat!
They are AMAZING! Don’t get put off by the terrible ‘Eragon’ movie based on the first book though 😉
They’re on my To Read List as we speak.
I think I’d like to adopt archy from archy & mehitabel.
Sure he’s a cockroach, but it would be nice to have another writer in the house and someone to argue with over poetry. And proof of reincarnation, of course. 🙂
He sounds a lot less mopey than the Franz Kafka version.
And you’re in the hat!
I would choose the lion in Maurice Sendak’s Nutshell book, Pierre. I think he would be a big hit at school drop offs, and I’m sure the dogs would love to play fetch with him at the dog run. Not to mention, I think he has special privileges at the NYPL. Fun post, Mike! 🙂
Oh, a fine choice! And you get three ballots!
If you could have any fictional character as a pet, which character would you choose and why?
Hobbs, most definitely Hobbs. I’m sure by now Calvin is all grown up which might be a good indication Hobbs is looking for new digs. When I write, I like to read out loud to hear how it flows. Right now, Oscar, my resident feline desk ornament, doesn’t offer much constructive criticism. I’m sure Hobbs, being the more sensible of the pair, could offer some valuable insight or at the very least point me in the right direction. I know he’s a feline and felines aren’t your “thing” but since he’s part of the big cat family, maybe you could cut him some slack.
As far as felines go, Hobbs is pretty much the perfect choice. Fun, wise, and loyal. Even I can support such an idea (if I wasn’t so allergic).
I’ll pass on a lifetime supply of Kleenex. 😉

What could be better than a chance to win one of Mike Allegra’s awesome doodles!
Awesome I choose piglet. We’d have the cutest adventures and then forget what we were doing lol.
Ah, sweet, inoffensive Piglet. I’ve always been partial to cantankerous Rabbit.
You’re in the hat!
Oh I can so see you as Rabbit! What fun!
I wasn’t going to enter but just wanted to tell you that this “win a doodle” idea is brilliant as are your illustrations, but then, it occurred to me that I’d like to have Bugs Bunny as a pet because, really, I never wanted to get to Albuquerque anyway.
I’m glad you entered, Teresa!
I contemplated Bugs, too, but I don’t think such a brash fellow would suit my mild-mannered lifestyle.
That said, I would choose Bugs’s cartoons over any others.
Hmm, what fictional character would I have as a pet? Can it be a human? Just kidding, just kidding…
Many years ago, I read a book called ‘Watchers’ by Dean Koontz. In it, a dog could communicate with his owner. I thought that would be pretty cool, if not a tad freaky. So I’ll pick that dog.
Fun contest!
Hm! I don’t know that one. Did the dog talk? Speak telepathically? Wag once for yes and twice for no?
I believe they communicated telepathically, but I can’t even remember now. I just remember it was a good book but a lousy movie.
I don’t think I’d want a dog who could read my thoughts. Just imagine trying to get him to the vet!
Hahaha. True.
He communicated by using Scrabble tiles and spelling out what he wanted. They had a great system that the tiles were all in tubes, Einstein would pick which letters he needed and spell the words. Excellent choice!
Ah, thank you! I couldn’t remember, but I remember really liking the book.
It’s my favorite Koontz book. I think I’ve read 90% of his books….love him!
Ah, that reminds me of a comic mystery I read a few years ago. The main canine in “A Dog About Town” communicates with his owner using Alphabits.
There’s something about winning one of your Doodles that is reminiscent of winning a miniature version of a Caldecott (well, maybe not a Caldecott) that, once it’s hanging on some wall somewhere, each time gazing upon it one would be filled with a deep sense of achievement 😀
So, for me, it’s sort of a toss-up—I think Thumper is one of the cutest characters EVER! I just know I’d never tire of him 🙂 But the first one who came to mind is none other than Bugs Bunny! (Wow, I just realized—they’re both bunnies! WHAT does that MEAN?!) I’d love to pal around with all that sarcastic humor, not to mention his expressiveness! 😀
One of my all-time favorites :D…
You struck me as a Bob Clampett Bugs Bunny fan. And good for you!
I’ve always been partial to Chuck Jones’s interpretation of the rabbit.
Never saw this one, Mike 🙂 And I always thought Chuck Jones did all the Bugs Bunny cartoons. Wasn’t he his voice? You obviously know about the background of which I know little!
Chuck Jones would’ve liked people to believe that, but it’s not even close to true. A number of cartoon directors handled the Rabbit. Tex Avery created Bugs in 1940 before joining MGM to direct pretty much every cartoon at that studio that didn’t star Tom & Jerry. (Avery’s most famous MGM creation was Droopy.) Your cartoon is by Bob Clampett, whose bugs was, in general, wilder and more impulsive than the other directors’.
Bugs’s voice was provided by Mel Blanc (who did most of the other WB voices — save for Elmer Fudd. He was also a regular on The Jack Benny Show.) I saw Blanc in person when I was a kid and the experience was wonderful.
Wanna know more? I can go on all day! 😉
Thank you! I actually “knew” it was Mel Blanc, but it didn’t register 🙂 VERY interesting stuff who ends up known (or takes credit for, which I’ve unfortunately experienced personally many times over *sigh*) for others’ work!
Chuck Jones did create Gossamer, by the way.
And a big KUDOS to Chuck for that one 🙂 You are obviously quite the cartoon connoisseur!
I would want a flying pig that I could ride around above the snow and occasionally Poop Upon Mine Enemies. Will definitely add this to my blog!
That sounds like a fine pet, but said flying, pooping pig needs to be a character found in literature of popular culture. Please give me a character that exists outside of your fevered imagination.
Okay, I have got it! Oberon, the wolfhound from Kevin Hearne s Iron Druid Series. He is huge, he fights he can talk to you telepathically and he is absolutely hysterical with his take on human life and culture.
And your name goes in the hat!
And I need to read the Iron Druid Series, because I’ve never heard of Oberon.
You would like it, I think! I only discovered it this summer and I quickly read all seven books and a short story and novella.
Blogged your contest!
Aaaand you get two more ballots! Good luck!
One of the details I love most about Philip Pullman’s fantasy book The Golden Compass is that people in that world each have a personal daemon, the manifestation of their soul in animal form. I would like to have Lyra’s daemon, Pantalaimon (nickname, Pan) who can take on many animal forms. But Pan’s favorite form seems to be the ermine (similar to a weasel). Who’d ever want a lovable weasel hugging their neck while he tells secrets in their ears? Well, those who realize that animals may already be our special daemons, if we just pay more attention to them.
My daemon would probably be a capybara. Or a goat. Or a thing that could switch from a capybara to a goat and then back again.
A fine and unique choice, my friend (I do expect nothing less from you). You’re in the contest!
Whoopee!! (My Pan is dancing on my head…)
Here’s hoping your Pan will give you luck!
Your doodles are so much more than doodles, Mike! They are art! (Even the cats :)) I have already been the lucky recipient of a doodle… of a fictional character who could be a pet no less – my own darling Phyllis 🙂 – so I should not be included in the choosing by that masked accomplice of yours, but let’s see… If I could choose a fictional character as a pet I’d choose the Cat In The Hat because he’s all kinds of fun! (And oh gosh, did I accidentally choose your least favorite animal…? Oops :))
P.S. I tweeted and FBed to make up for the cat thing 🙂
The Cat In The Hat? Out of all the cats out there I would probably pick him last. That guy is a destructive, self-centered anarchist!
That said, I love the character’s design. Years ago I painted a mural of TCITH in my nephew’s room. I posted a few pictures here:
https://mikeallegra.com/2013/03/10/put-the-cat-out/
Oh, and by the way, you’re still in the contest. 🙂
Hi Mike, love the great dane doodle. If I were to pick a pet it would be Jerry the mouse from Tom and Jerry. Yep, they are updated in picture books from Capstone. Anyway, Jerry would be great at disturbing my two kitties, who would then be too busy to want to lie on my laptop (no pun intended).
I’m conflicted by Jerry. He’s a mouse, which I like, but he’s such a violent and destructive one, which I don’t. Despite my cat antipathy, I always rooted for Tom in those cartoons.
But that’s neither her not there. You’re name is in the hat!
Hmmm… That is a hard one; I haven’t read much on pet lit, but I think my choice would be a greyhound dog, like Reyna’s in the Heroes of Olympus series.
I don’t know that series; I’m gonna have to check it out.
But AHEM! You did not explain WHY you chose the greyhound dog. If you want your name in the hat, you gotta tell me why. Don’t make me disqualify you.
BTW: your character does not need to be from literature. It can be from a movie, a TV show, a cartoon, comic book — anywhere, really.
Ahhhhhh this is the coolest competition evahhhh! I literally have so many fictional pets that I would love… Hedwig from HP, the raptors from Jurassic Park (yes really), Maruman from Obernewtyn (even though he is a cat)… But I will have to settle on Nymeria the direwolf from A Game of Thrones. Because wolves are already awesome, and this one is giant and smart. We don’t 100% know what happened to her, but personally I am convinced that she has become the Queen of the Wolves. That’s just how awesome she is. Plus she was named after a warrior queen, so yeah.
A sound choice. And you’re in the running!
Gossamer, the orange monster from the Bugs Bunny cartoons. He’s just so fluffy and would do whatever I asked him to do, unlike the other members of my household. Although, Eric does have one beautiful head of hair.
I love the fact that you know his name, Celeste. So few do.
Gossamer does look like he’d be nice to snuggle up to on a cold winter night.
But in the summer? The shedding would be awful. Just awful.
DARTH VADER – Why? Instead of “sicking” him on people I could have him force choke people – right? How useful would that be?!?
Okay I am including a mention and a link back in my tomorrows post and I am mentioning on my facebook page and twitter – so I get like 147 votes right? 😉
Do you really think Darth Vader could be someone’s pet?!
Well, maybe Emperor Palpatine’s.
Hi I am Josie, Erik’s sister. I would want the Hippo from The Belly Button Book because the hippo with a belly button creeps Erik out ha ha ha I don’t have facebook or twitter I put it on my blog :o)
As a younger sibling myself, I can think of no better reason to choose a pet.
And you get three ballots, Josie!
This reminds me…I did actually tweet this, but with you NOT on Twitter—how would you know?! And, btw, I knew Gossamer’s name—I just always forget! lol

Win a cool Doodle! 🙂
We’d go for Brain, the loyal pet dog out of Inspector Gadget. Brain, obviously, is highly intelligent with communication skills that makes some Politicians sound like pre-schoolers. He’s got access to the best gadgets and has a nifty communicator on his collar that never needs recharging, is always in range and contactable 24/7 – bill free. He knows his way around the kitchen and is a dog not afraid to wear an apron. Bonus is he’s a ‘Master of disguises’ so you could raid his wardrobe for costume parties and kid’s parties. Brain can babysit, help with homework and protect the home – effortlessly. After all his day job is saving damsels in distress, assisting bumbling secret agents, while saving the world as the ultimate underdog.
We’d also secretly revel in the fact we had a dog that was smarter than the neighbours.
Our entire household had awesome fun with this, so we spread the luv on Twitter 🙂
Now this is the way to do it! Well done!
In fact, I’m giving you an extra ballot for your well-thought out response. Three votes for you!
I would choose Hong Kong Fooey. He and my daughter could practice martial arts together and save the world all in 1 day! ❤
Oh, I loved Hong Kong Phooey when I was a kid. I even had a HKP lunch box. A fine choice.
I think I would like to have Barbar the elephant. He is a bit large and would take up quite a lot of room, but he is just so stylish and wise. I am sure he would know all the good places to go, and he has a very cool car he could drive me around in
Oh, I like this one. And, yes, Barbar did have a pretty awesome car.
Oh come on…the easy choice here is Simons Cat! I mean, just “meow”, point to mouth and all is right with the world again. My cat has tried to pull this stuff on me…not gonna happen (unless I was doing it).
Re-blogging as well as facebook and twittering…I love this idea and your “doodles” are incredible! Thanks for the fun!
Love those cartoons! Yes, Simon’s cat is a cutie. A bit destructive, but cute.

This has to be one of the cutest ideas I’ve seen…join in the fun folks!
Mr. Ed, because who doesn’t want a talking horse who is part human. 🙂
That last thing I’d want to do is clean up after a half-human horse. But OK! You’re in for three ballots!

Enter to win a doodle!
I would have Toothless from ‘How to Train your Dragon’, because he’s mysterious, hard to catch and I’d never have to search for a lighter to light candles again!
I can’t find a single thing wrong with this idea.
And we’d host the best BBQ’s for miles around 🙂
I’m in the middle of an immersion training and you made me smile from ear to ear (and maybe wrapped around my head!), Mike. Count me in!
I can’t count you in unless you pick a pet! Don’t you read directions?
Directions, schmirections…
Okay, I’ll go with Superman. It would be nice to get off the subways and city streets to zip around Metropolis with Superman’s eye view. He would be the ultimate photographer’s perch. Not to mention how handy he’d be at opening a jar of pickles! xoxoM
Your the third one to pick a person as a pet. What is wrong with you people?
It’s a CHARACTER, Mike, not “people”. Sheesh! lol xoxoM
I’ll go with Heathcliff from Wuthering Heights. I would keep in my basement and take him out when I want to feel sad and abused and loved at the same time.
There is so very much wrong with this idea. But I guess that’s why they call you silly.
Fiiine. You’re in the hat.
SCOOBY DOO!
It’s ok, I won’t enter anyway, only right to give someone else a chance of not getting the actual doodle they asked for 😉 Seriously though, you know I was very happy with what you did for me, and quite happy with the doodle too. Ha! I’m on a roll today!
How very kind of you to say! But you should enter. If you win, I won’t half-ass it. Promise.
You didn’t half-ass it, you played to your strengths! Or something like that. Ok, if I think of a good one I’ll come back and enter 🙂
I’d go with Tock from the Phantom Tollbooth. He’s a watchdog, quite literally. Classic fictional pet. That, or Morph, the little shapeshifting blob from Treasure Planet.
I had forgotten all about Morph. Oh, that thing is adorable, isn’t it?
But, AHEM, I need the “why.” Why do you want Tock or Morph? C’mon now. Out with it!
Ah, good point. Well, I’d want Tock because he’s dependable, and he’s a literal watchdog, so he’d be very helpful keeping track of time and appointments. As for Morph, he’s a shapeshifting intelligent pink blob. I think that’s reason of itself. 🙂 He could shift into any pet, or a wrench, or a lost key, or a miniature version of me. That could be quite helpful and endearing!
Great! You’re in the drawing!
Well, the first thing that came to mind was Smaug from the Hobbit! I think it’s because I am obsessed with anything to do with the Hobbit or Lord of the Rings trilogy and let’s face it, having a dragon guarding you would be awesome…if he doesn’t choose to eat you first! Actually coming to think of it, Smaug probably would eat me! Ah well, I still like him. Would you prefer me to reblog this or just write a little post with a link? This is a lovely competition by the way! 🙂
Smaug! You like to live dangerously, eh Caitlin?
Regardless, your name goes in the hat!
Oh, and you can link to this post or reblog it. Whatever you like.
Yeah that’s me! Livin’ life on the edge! Haha! I think I’ll just reblog it! 😉
Pascal from the movie “Tangled.” Not only is he cute, but he’s proven to be the best supporter for each one of Rapunzel’s diverse hobbies, even though deep inside, you can tell that he’s pretty much over it. This picture says it all: http://cartoonsimages.com/sites/default/files/styles/larger/public/field/image/disney-tangled-pascal-wallpaper-1032.jpg?itok=jLj_9IHR (And okay, I may be a little biased because the picture portrays sewing — which is the main focus of my blog — but still.)
I don’t think you could select a finer reptilian pet than Pascal. Well done!
I had to put a great deal of thought into this….there are so many to choose from. I would have to say Kermit the Frog. He looks great in a tuxedo but is just as comfortable in his own skin….and, for an amphibian, he plays a mean banjo!! It ain’t easy being green, but he does it with finesse. 🙂
Finally! A Muppet! I was wondering if anyone was gonna go the Jim Henson Route.
Kermit is an excellent choice (as I am a big fan of the banjo).
Reblogged this on The Teen Daydreamer and commented:
Please get involved! Just don’t win, yeah?! I’m just kidding… 🙂
Hello! So… I’ve just now discovered your blog/website. (Love the About You section… by the way. Ha!) So a character for a pet… I definitely must say Fawkes the phoenix from Harry Potter. Yes, he once belonged to Dumbledore, but I think he needs a home now, right? His beauty, amazing voice, and strength would be so inspiring to have around. Plus, I think the burning days would be totally cool to witness!
I shared this on my facebook page. 🙂
Fawkes is a fine choice — though you would need to have a fire extinguisher handy in case he decided to do that burning thing in your living room.
Hey, Ali 🙂 You’ve discovered one of the BEST blogs in the ENTIRE blogosphere! You will be instantaneously hooked on Mike 🙂 And if you like Fawkes, you may like my post on him that I recently put up (hope you don’t mind, Mike!): http://writersideup.com/2015/02/18/up-the-phoenix-no-ordinary-bird/
I would like to have a baby Groot as a pet. Even a grown up Groot would be awesome. I just think it would be fun to experience the transition from baby to full grown Groot. First of all Groot, has to be the best fictional character ever. Secondly, how much fun is it to just randomly yell, “I am Groot”. I would be the envy of the whole galaxy if I had a Groot.
You are doing the draw on St. Patrick’s Day which happens to be my birthday. Wouldn’t a doodle be the best birthday present ever?
Well, happy almost birthday to you, Michelle! Here’s hoping you win a killer present from me. 😉
Well! I’m getting up off my deathbed to enter your competition. Imagine driving 2.5 hours, while coming down with something that turns out to be the flu, to attend an SCBWI conference and spending the majority of the time lying down, and then driving back. Spending the next three days sleeping and hacking up both lungs, so I was unable to audition for Listen to Your Mother…but now have just enough energy to tell you:
Tigger! Of course. Not that he’d allow himself to be considered a pet, more along the lines of a companion. As a kid, I ran around singing the Tigger song. Who am I kidding? As an adult, I run around singing the Tigger song….I guess I identify with the ADD effusive nature of Tigger. I AM Tigger. 😀
Sorry, ya just can’t get away from those dang cats!
Will Tweet and share.
Oh, and Liam says Ursula LeGuin’s Catwings, a kitten with wings is what he’d want to have as a pet so the kitten could fly around. Hahahahahhaahhhaahhaahaaaa! You just can’t get away from those furry kitties, can you?
I fully expect you to send our entries to Davy Jones’ locker. We’ve won before, and well, we are cat people…. 😀
Oh…Liam, great choice. I only ask that you not eat my pet…maybe they could fly around the country together instead. 😀
Oh, how I hated Tigger (the Disney version of Tigger, that is). He was always jumping on and otherwise annoying my 100-Acre Wood sprit animal, Rabbit.
Leave it to you dang Hoffmanns to pick cats for everything!
But fiiine. Both you and the punk are in the contest!
That said, I am sorry to hear that you have been so sick. Maybe you’re allergic to cat talk?
aaaaaaaaahhhh—choooooooo! So sorry. Did I get any on you?
That’s it. I’m hiding in a big plastic bubble.
For me it would have to be Pingu. The reason, well after everyone assuming for years that I had a love of Penguins I eventually did develop of a love of penguins lol
But *why* do you love penguins, Eejit? You gotta tell me why!
Because I was receiving subliminal messages.
One year my sister bought me a penguin for Christmas, and no, not a real one. She liked it so much she kept it for herself, so it became a joke between us and every year something had to be Penguin orientated.
My friends saw this and thought aaaahaaaa she must like Penguins and they started to buy me things too. I thought penguins were OK, nothing special but every one assumed I lovvvved them. After years of subliminal messages from the various Penguin paraphernalia about this house, I just gave up and decided I did love them. Simples 🙂
(You’re sorry you asked now ain’t ya lol)
I’m a little sorry, but now you are officially entered in the contest. Three ballots for you!
Why are you sorry? It all came good in the end 🙂
Scrub that I noe know why you’re sorry! Doh, the perils of answering in your phone. Forgot I had asked lol

Fun idea, so come on my fictional loving friends, what would your pet be?
I would want to have Herman from Herman the Great be my pet because he’s really smart. He understands people and can talk to them. He’s creative and loves to paint…just like me. 🙂 and adventuresome, flying solo in a miniature airplane – you know the one’s that are remote controlled. And lastly I want him as a pet because he likes to explore and goes on a big long road trip across the states…I will have to be his chaperone…to keep him safe from cats and birds of prey. 😀
Finally a rodent! And a very talented one at that. Out of all the answers so far, I think this one is closest to the pet I would choose. Well done!
I wish it were as simple as that…right now the only rodent that is contemplating being my pet is the squirrel who keeps eating all my bird seed. When I look through the window he stops what he’s doing and looks straight at me. If I am out side he doesn’t run away. I wonder if he would like to try flying?
Squirrels deserve all the birdseed they can get. They are wonderful. Also brilliant and brazen:
Ha! That was funny and it was the first thing that one of the squirrels tried except his landing was not as successful. He slid off the roof of the feeder and landed in the birdbath, was surprised over the sudden dunking and shot up in the air like a rocket then landed in the flowers. His ego bruised for the moment…he decided to rummage for stray seed that fell on the ground. I admit that seeing that made my day! But within ten minutes he was right back to trying to get the bird feeder seed.
By the time I came home the feeder was empty. I had smartly only filled it a little bit because I wanted to see how much the squirrels ate. I was also curious about the technique it managed. So I watched…and watched and once I caught him hanging by his hind leg devouring all he could get his paws on. Are they paws or hands? I wondered how he got there. There were two possible approaches, jump from the trees nearby or tight rope walk a very thin line. Actually three, he could just keep jumping and missing and eat what fell to the ground.
It was two more days before I caught him in the act…walking the little tight rope wire. So not only are they smart but they have awesome balance! And do you know that little rodent couldn’t keep a good thing to himself. Oh no, he has invited several of his friends so every morning I have four squirrels running up and down the tree outside my bedroom window…waiting to see if I have filled the feeder yet, chattering away loudly…I think they are doing that on purpose. So far they have been decent enough to wait for the crack of dawn.
…and let’s not forget Ulysses!!! 😀 You know—Flora’s pal? 😉

I’d like to give a shout out to Mike Allegra at HeyLookAFellowWriter who is having one of his famous doodle contests. I really want one of those doodles and for many of us it’s kinda like playing the lottery. You keep trying hoping that this time you’ll have the winning ticket.
But I would promote Mike even if he didn’t have contests because he is an excellent writer. One of my favorite posts is this one…https://mikeallegra.com/2013/02/17/tales-of-a-sixth-grade-writer/
Very entertaining to see some of your other doodles!
I would choose Roo from Winnie the Pooh. That was the nickname for our youngest son, Andrew; therefore I was Kanga and he was Roo. But Andrew just keeps growing up so if I could have my own little Roo to keep around forever I would be happy. 🙂
Oh, Roo is adorable. Did you and your little one see The Heffalump Movie?
I would choose Cooper from Fox and the Hound, preferably when he returns from his first hunting trip though. That was my favorite movie as a kid, and I have a female blood hound that would get along with him quite well. She acts similar in the way that she befriends abandoned and small animals. She tried to bring home a baby opossum one night. That did not go over so well with the kitten she had gotten the week before. Anyways, Cooper would be a great addition to my family!
Why, it sounds like you have the perfect pet in that bloodhound of yours. What’s the girl’s name?
Her name is Isidora, or Izzy for short, I am actually in the middle of editing a post about her. It should be up in a couple of days, complete with pictures!
Tweety Bird would make a great pet because he’s smart and sweet and he would be constantly saying, “I tink I saw a puddy cat” as we have two cats at our place. Great competition and your illustrations are fantastic.
If you want Tweety, then you better learn that he says, “I tawt I taw a puddytat.”
Forgive me. I am a wee bit OCD.
And your name goes in the hat!
I know! I googled Tweety before sending it and when I went back to change it my message had already been sent!
OK. I forgive you.
Thanks! I was hoping you would. 🙂

because she is sleek, courageous, friendly ,beautiful.who wouldnt want a pet like that and a lioness at that.Did i mention her name means gift and she is African just like me
I like this one. Nala is not as flashy as Timon or Pumbaa, but she really would be the best pet, wouldn’t she?
Mine would definitely be Manchee from The Knife Of Never Letting Go. Just because he is the best talking dog I know. And he is the only fictional dog I have cried about. (the book is pretty dramatic, but also awesome:D)
Hm! I don’t know this book. Looks like I got yet another title to put on my To Read Pile.
omg – these doodles are amazing and I can’t resist playing too.
What fictional character would I pick? So many good ones but one of my all-time favourites is the Pink Panther. He’s sassy, he’s classy, he’s smart …. and oh-so cute 🙂
He’s one cool cat. I can dig it.
I want Aslan as a pet, of sorts. Mostly because he’s ‘not a tame lion’, and I think he would be a better companion through life than an actual pet.
Maybe I should just have an Ent.
Or Shadowfax! Our car is named Shadowfax, though it’s been a dismal failure of being the ‘Lord of all horses” (horsepower?). The real Shadowfax would be a vast improvement.
Help… I can’t pick one…
Shadowfax? That’s so 1980s; how about Shadowtext? Shadowtweets?
My dad still needs to get rid of his Shadowbeeper.
OK, I’ll stop.
I’ve never heard of Shadowfax. Is that the name of the book?
…….. I’m sorry. We can’t be blogging friends anymore if you don’t know who Shadowfax is.

So you can fully appreciate Shadowfax:
Dang. I didn’t realize out bloggy friendship was based solely on my knowing the name of Gandalf’s horse. Well, fine, now I know it!
Well, you know who he is NOW, so we can still be friends. Just be warned that if you exhibit ignorance of any Tolkienish aspect, I will feel obligated to inform you. With much shock and teasing.
😉
(Oh, Mike…you don’t know SHADOWFAX?! Gandolf’s horse?!!! *sigh* SO disappointing…)
Oh, settle down, you. My main childhood pursuit was animation history.
Speaking of which…

Make that Gandalf, not Gandolf — another *sigh*
*giggles*
I would say nothing beats Gary, Spongebob’s pet snail.
A cat in a body of a snail. Meow. Need I say more?
Peace man. Just passing and I had fun reading… thanks
From your user name I was figuring you’d go for something more like Aslan.
But Gary’s good. Better than good. OK PiP, you’re in.
I have always been kind of partial to Donald Duck. He’s full of bluster, but underneath it all, I think he’s an old softie. I also think he’s pretty loyal, and I’d want someone (or whatever you call an animal companion) who would stick by my side no matter what happened.
For me, Donald loses points for being abusive to chipmunks.
You’re in the hat, Dmalmq! Good luck.
Thanks for the heads up. I know it’s Tuesday East Coast but it’s still Monday my time!
Pet, pet–since the second hand guinea pig passed on I’m not thinking pets much these days. Umm, Toto? He took on witches, munchkins, a wizard, and even a lion–admirable little doggins.
