When my picture book, Sleepy Happy Capy Cuddles came out last year, I was delighted to read the wonderful reviews. I was even more delighted to hear the positive word of mouth from readers.
But, nestled in the back of my mind, a fretful question lingered:
People might like my book, but what about capybaras?
Apparently I wasn’t the only one wondering this. On a recent trip to Japan to visit family, awesome blog buddy Pam Webb stopped off at the Okinawa Botanical Gardens to get answers.
And the results are in:
Sleepy Happy Capy Cuddles is
CAPYBARA APPROVED!
Thanks for everything, Pam!
And to everyone reading this, may all your days be Happy Capy!
Congratulations Mike!! And Happy Thanksgiving weekend. I pray all is well with your family! 🦃🥧🧡
Thanks, Kimber! I had a great holiday. Here’s hoping all is well with you!
Yes, indeed. Mike’s Happy Capy book does make capys happy. And they do floof when happy.
What does a floof look like? And, did you introduce them to the book at one of those animal cafes I’ve heard about?
A “floof” is when a capybara’s fur stands on end. They look like a prickly angel. Capys floof when they’re happy or otherwise blissed out.
As for Capy cafes, I’m going to have to check those out. Since Capybaras need a lot of room (and a good water source) to roam about happily, I’m not sure that would be the best environment for them, however.
Thanks for the definition. That’s adorable!
I’ll ask my friend who just went, but it sounds like the animals wander around happily and that the patrons can cuddle with one.
Hey Chel—I can attest that a happy capy’s fur does stand up when they are happy. They love belly rubs. Visited a cat cafe but no capy cafes. They are big, think supersized guinea pig.
A friend went to a cafe that had a variety, including hedgehogs! What an interesting thing to learn about capys.
Hedgehogs! Ooh, I would go to that cafe.
I cannot even *begin* to tell you haw delighted I was to receive these pics in my inbox. Best early birthday present EVER!
Well then, good timing and a very happy birthday to you, Mike!
Hey, a review straight from the source. Ha ha, congratulations!
Thank you, Brian! (I do hope that capybara does freelance reviews for the Library Journal.)
I never doubted for a minute that the world’s capys would instantly fall in love (and in floof) with this book, Mike! Glad your fretful question has been answered and you can bask in the warmth of capy love! You deserve it! 😁❤️😁
Capy love is the most pure form of love, methinks.
So funny, Mike. Clearly the Capy enjoyed seeing himself in print!
Well, capybaras do love fine works of literature, after all. 😉
Oh my goodness. That is fantastic!!!! What a great blog buddy Pam is! That would make my month! Well done, Pam!
It did make my month!
You know what else would make me happy? You not injuring yourself. Get to work on that. 😉
L! O! L!
But I can make no promises. 😉
Dagnabbit!
Great job Pam! Critter literature at its finest!
CritLit?
👍
Glad you like the post, Amelia!
A sigh of relief heard round the world. Congrats!
I think that sigh you hear is a capybara maxin’ and relaxin’.
Well, I’m hooked on Capbaras. Every time I use Insta, I keep getting “suggestions” for videos of these gorgeous critters and I don’t mind in the least 😁
I always knew you had excellent taste.
😄😄
Nice 👌
Thanks, Satyam!
